New Hampshire moving company rules
A company that moves household goods for hire between points in New Hampshire must hold a certificate from the New Hampshire Department of Safety. The mover must keep cargo insurance or an indemnity bond on file, register each moving vehicle with the Division of Motor Vehicles, and follow state rules on written estimates. Complaints about in-state movers go to the department's Bureau of Road Toll in writing.

Estimates
If you ask, the mover must give you a written estimate before doing any work. It must itemize the services and charges, and for moves priced by weight and mileage it must list the articles and estimated weight. The mover may not charge more than 10 percent above the written estimate without your written consent, and must get your permission before doing unrelated extra work.
Insurance or bond
Movers must file proof of a cargo insurance policy or indemnity bond from an insurer licensed in New Hampshire, with coverage of at least 60 cents per pound of the registered load-carrying capacity of each vehicle used in the business. The certificate of insurance is refiled with each annual report.
