About Local Movers US
Local Movers US is a free, state-by-state reference to the rules that govern moving companies. It answers three questions for anyone hiring a mover: who licenses movers where you live, how to check one, and where to go when a move goes wrong.
What you will find here
- A page for each of the 50 states and the District of Columbia, listing the agency that oversees in-state movers, the license or registration lookup, estimate and liability rules, and complaint offices.
- Guides to the federal rules for interstate moves: licenses, estimates, liability, complaints, scams and delivery payment.
- A list of sources on every page, and a note on any point we could not confirm.
What Local Movers US is not
- It is not a moving company or a broker, and it does not arrange moves.
- It does not rate, rank, review or recommend movers.
- It does not collect quote requests or contact details, and it does not sell leads.
- It is not a government site and does not give legal advice. The agencies we link to have the final word on their rules.
How the pages are built
We take facts from statutes, regulations and the agencies that enforce them, and we link each source. When the official record is unclear, we say so. Read the editorial standards.
