Maine moving company rules
No Maine agency was found that licenses, registers or sets rates for movers doing moves within the state. The Maine Attorney General notes that federal moving rules cover only moves between states, not moves between two Maine addresses. For problems with an in-state mover, the Attorney General's consumer complaint and mediation service is the main state route.

Other Maine rules to know
- Federal household goods rules, enforced by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration and sometimes by the Maine Attorney General, apply only to moves that cross state lines.
- The Maine Public Utilities Commission regulates electric, natural gas, telecommunications and water utilities; movers are not on its list.
- With no state mover license to check, the Secretary of State business search is the main way to confirm a mover is a registered business entity.
Moving into or out of Maine? A move that crosses a state line follows federal rules instead. Check an interstate mover.
